J0270 (cont). When the mudslide hit, it was devastatingly sudden. Cars, trucks, campers, busses, everything was shoved and buried. I had to crawl out through my window. And then break a car’s window to pull out the occupants who were trapped inside. My truck forgotten, all I could do was to save myself and others.

J0270. Water filled the road ahead. It’s shallow appearance was deceptive. I’d read about people trying to go forward in what looked like a few centimetres of water, only to discover they were quickly up to the hood of their car.
