S0242. The old man went inside, and with a cough and growl, a heavy engine turned over. Slowly, like a great battleship, a cistern truck emerged. It was a 1987 Kraz 255, a Ukrainian-made military behemoth that predated the fall of the Soviet Union. The farmer had installed an unused stainless steel cistern bought from a Russian supplier that still sported Cyrillic lettering warning of flammable contents, but it was only ever used for water.
